Delhi, officially known as the National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCT), is the capital city of India. It is one of the oldest existing cities in the world and has a rich history dating back thousands of years.
Itinerary
On arrival at Delhi airport / railway station you will be transferred to the hotel in Delhi. Rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight at the hotel in Delhi.
Today after breakfast, proceed on tour of Old Delhi, with a visit to Jama Mosque, the largest mosque in India, built in 1650 AD. Drive past Red Fort (closed on Mondays), 1639-48 built by Emperor Shah Jehan, creator of The Taj Mahal. Later visit to Raj Ghat - the site of the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi and Shanti Vana - the memorial of Independent India’s frst Prime Minister, Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru. Later drive past through the Embassy area (Diplomatic enclave), Government buildings - Parliament House and Presidents House and India Gate. Then visit Qutab Minar, built in 1193 in persian style of architecture. Also visit Humayun's Tomb - this magnifcent garden tomb is the frst substantial example of Mughal architecture in India. It was built in 1565 A.D. nine years after the death of Humayun, by his senior widow Bega Begam. Inside the walled enclosure the most notable features are the garden squares (chaharbagh) with pathways water channels, centrally located well proportional mausoleum topped by double dome. Today you will proceed to Mathura - one of the capitals of Kushan King Kanishka (130AD) the abode of Lord Krishna and it has a great religious sanctity among the Hindus. It also has one of the oldest historical records in the epic Ramayana. Visit to Lord Krishna Temple. Overnight at the hotel in Mathura. (B)
Today you will proceed to Agra - in the 16th and 17th centuries was the capital of Mughal India and its superb monuments date from that era. It has a magnifcent fort and the building which so many people come to India solely to see the Taj Mahal. On arrival check into hotel. Later tour Agra Fort, the original red sandstone fort built by Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1565. The Forts maze of courtyards, its marble mosque and lavish private chambers refect the grandeur of the Mughal Empire.Visit Taj Mahal - the mausoleum of Empress Mumtaz Mahal, the beloved spouse of Shah Jahan, who died in 1630. Overnight at the hotel in Agra. (B)
This morning you will be transferred to Delhi airport/ railway station to board your fight/train back home or to your next destination.
